The University of Limerick

The University of Limerick is located 5 miles from the Castle Oaks Hotel .  The University of Limerick is an independent, internationally focused university with over 11,600 students and 1,300 staff. It is a young, energetic and enterprising university with a proud record of innovation in education and excellence in research and scholarship. Its mission is to promote and advance learning and knowledge through teaching, research and scholarship in an environment which encourages innovation and upholds the principles of free enquiry and expression. Particular attention is paid to the generation of knowledge which is relevant to the needs of Ireland’s continuing socio-economic development.

There is a close interaction between UL and the National Technology Park.

The National Technology Park has been designed to meet the needs of high-technology and knowledge-based businesses by providing low density development in a high quality parkland environment. The Park provides a range of flexible business infrastructure and accommodation options for eligible activities. Some of companies that are loacted in this area are Vistakon, Cook Medical and Hamilton House.

 

The University fosters a broad arts programme and is currently home to the:

• Irish World Academy of Music and Dance – an internationally acclaimed centre for innovation and research in music and dance performance and scholarship,
• Irish Chamber Orchestra – Ireland’s leading international chamber orchestra, funded by An Chomhairle Ealaíon, The Irish Arts Council.

The University Concert Hall (UCH), is a 1,000 seat, multi-purpose venue and the first purpose-built concert hall in the country. Since its establishment in 1993, UCH has served as a multi-cultural facility for the Mid-West Region and beyond with over 1.4 million audience members attending concert performances spanning all genres of music together with performances of dance, ballet, musicals, drama,

comedy and opera. Frequent television and radio broadcasts by the National broadcaster RTĒ have taken place and the venue plays host to numerous local community music and performance groups.

The University Arena is used for many Sports Events. “Sport” a term synonymous with the fabric of Limerick is the central theme and mission of the Sports Department at the University of Limerick. The Arena’s Cardio Fitness centre, Fitness Studios, Sports Hall, Outdoor facilities and National 50M Pool are one of the best facilities in the Country. The Arena’s Cardio Fitness centre is on of the most comprehensive gyms in Ireland. The National 50M Olympic size pool, hosts many National Swimming and Waterpolo events. Swimming clubs all over Ireland and abroad use these facilities for training. The Irish Rugby Team is one of the many teams who use the facilities at the University’s Arena.
